New sdlBasic Forum

The sdlBasic language has been around for some years but the old forum was in a bad state. Around 18 months ago a new forum which can be found here was created. In order to create an account on the new forum you’ll need to use OpenID. (If you’ve got a Google account, that’ll work.)

A lot of useful programs can already be found on the new forum. I posted a few sdlBasic  examples on the old forum & if I get some spare-time maybe I’ll upload something.

Protrekkr v2.5.4

If you’re looking for a quick & easy way to make music then I recommend you take a look at Protrekkr. It’s ideally suited to making music for indie games, demos etc. Combine it with the Sound-Effects generator sfxr & you’ll have everything you need to make audio for your projects.

A lot of useful information in this speech about the technology used in Rage & the differences between Console & PC development.

Ever had that problem in Google Chrome where you accidentally press the exit button in the top corner of the window when you’ve got multiple tabs open & the browser just shuts down?

In Firefox & IE it isn’t a problem because you’ll get a reminder on the screen asking you whether you wish to close all tabs. Now you can get the same in Chrome if you install the Chrome Toolbox Extension.

Free File Splitter

Back before USB drives, when 3.5 inch disks were the norm, I’d usually need to use a file splitting utility to break-up a large application before transferring it to another computer.

File Splitters can still be useful nowadays when you need to upload something to a site which has an arbitrary size limit set  such as 10MB or similar. Plus the same utility that you used for splitting can also be used for merging too.

There are a lot to choose from but currently this is the Splitter I’m using which is completely free.

David Crane On Pitfall

David Crane was one of the original programmers on the Atari 2600 who went on to develop Pitfall. On the Thumb Culture site there is an article which links to a video of him talking at the GDC back in February.
